Best summer Alpine activities

We might currently be in the depths of winter, but that doesn’t need to stop us planning for the more hospitable climes! With the sun out, the Alps offer a range of activities, some of which simply aren’t possible when temperatures have plummeted.

In this blog, we single out some things to do which are ideal for the hottest season of the year when heading to a Samoëns luxury chalet, or any family-friendly luxury holiday in the region.

Hit the trails

With the Alpine meadows in bloom, summer is a simply divine time to hit the trails for hiking and trekking. You can find everything from gentle, scenic routes to much more challenging mountain peak treks. There are so many trails to choose from, so ensure that you pick up an area map from your local tourist information office.

White water rafting

In your Grand Massif luxury chalet, you will be ideally located to take advantage of the rivers in this area of the Alps. When the snow melts and the rivers get higher, the Giffre river provides some of the best white water rafting in the region, offering an exciting adrenaline sport which also allows you to take in some spectacular scenery.

Yes, you read it right. You can also ski in the summer if you are willing to travel up to the Alps’ glaciers at high altitude. Les Deux Alpes is open in July and there are no less than 16 ski lifts available each morning, while Tignes is another resort that offers you the chance to get your skis and tan on!

On your bike

Whether you are slogging up former Tour de France routes or going for a gentle family pedal in the Samoëns area, summer is undoubtedly the best time to get on the saddle. Research some road cycling routes and make up a packed lunch from delicious regionally-sourced foods or enjoy a pit-stop at a local eatery along the way.

So there you have it – some ideas for your next summer Alpine holiday! Who said that the only place to enjoy the sun is on the beach?
