Skiing and snowboarding in the Samoëns: Which is for you?

The Samoëns is a beautiful spot to enjoy outdoor snow sports including skiing, snowboarding, and other winter activities. Whether you’re a complete beginner or a seasoned regular, skiing and snowboarding offer a fantastic opportunity to enjoy the thrill of the slopes during your stay in Ferme du Ciel.

If you’re contemplating skiing or snowboarding lessons, Ferme du Ciel is perfect for both. The Grand Massif boasts over 265km of pistes for skiing enthusiasts and a network of lifts rising to 2500m for snowboarders. But which is the perfect winter sport for you?

How experienced are you?

If you’ve never set foot on the slopes before, chances are you’ll find skiing easier to pick up than snowboarding. This is because with two feet on separate skis and a starting position that faces forward, skiing is a little more intuitive to begin with than snowboarding. That said, with more experience, snowboarding is usually easier to master than skiing.

What’s your appetite for danger?

Because your feet are strapped to the board, you’ll probably endure more trips and falls when snowboarding than skiing, at least during the early stages of the hobby. However, as you advance through the sports, skiing is usually the more dangerous activity and is harder on the knees than snowboarding.

What do your friends and family do?

If you’re heading on a trip to The Grand Massif with friends or family, ask around and see what everyone else is planning. If you’re happy going off by yourself it’s fine, but be careful that you don’t unexpectedly end up the only snowboarder in a family of skiers if you’re not happy being apart from the group most of the day.
